Goodwerp was born as a result of our love for online products. We are coders and designers and usually obsess with the tiniest details.
A small team taking on the giants of the world.
Before Goodwerp, we were running as a web-design agency. We were crafting websites and web-applications for local and international clients. During this time we were using various tools to manage our day-to-day operations and found out that most of them had more hype around them than an actual solution.
2013 started super slow for us. We couldn't close few new projects in the pipeline and were burning cash very fast. On the other hand, for quite some time, we were itching to build an online product of our own.
We felt the moment was right to switch gears. With some faith for the unknown and support from our families, we embarked on a global journey. We dreamed of building a product that would potentially be used by thousands of people around the world.
Clearly, with Goodwerp, we were scratching our own itch. We started envisioning an online tool that we would want to use. We became our very own client.
Even though the market was littered with various tools, we thought there was still room for a better solution. We never worried about big numbers. We have been self-funded from the beginning and never had the pressure of an investor breathing down our necks. We wanted to genuinely create something others can benefit from, while we can feel good about ourselves that we've build something valuable for someone thousands of miles away.
There's nothing more fulfilling than making something and having people we never met, across continents, use it in their day-to-day life.
We started building Goodwerp back in April of 2013 and launched it 4-months later. Only 6-weeks after our initial launch, we received our first paying client. To this day, that client is still with us.
Our early days were filled with excitement, joy, naivety, tears, failures, successes, and every imaginable emotion in between. We went from having incredible days and new payments, to disastrous disappointments. Though, we still like to think that we've grown up, we still get down when we lose a client and exponentially psyched when a new client says "We love your work!". That nervousness, uncertainty, joy, and pride has kept us curious for what's ahead.
Our nimbleness, and small size has allowed us to stay close to our clients. We'd like to believe that our clients love us because we're attentive, we stay true to our word, and are honest about how we run our business. We've always been.
Though we've had many trials and tribulations along the way, we treaded on steadily with a small team, taking on the giants of the world.
Founder (Designer, Front-end developer)
Val started coding at the tender age of 10, then on Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, and built his first full working product at the age of 12. Since that tender age he experimented with sports and arts. He studied Graphic Design in New Jersey, worked in various companies in New York (National Basketball Association, Oxfam America, New York Film Academy), ran two design firms of his own, was part of the team that created a gigantic sculpture that won a Golden Lion in Canes, and is a proud father of an awesome 3-year old and an Ok husband.
Co-founder (Software engineer)
Erman is an avid AC Milan and Formula 1 fan. He started selling ice-cream and learning how to run a business at an early age (probably not a legal age) while his friends were still watching cartoons and fooling around. He studied Computer Science and has completed his studies for the Masters Degree on Database Management. Prior to joining Goodwerp, he was part of a large scale fleet management system where he learned his way around building applications that can scale and handle millions of database transactions.
In Goodwerp he is in charge of the build and back-end architecture.
Our logo has two meanings. The first meaning is represented by a chart going upwards, suggesting progress. The second meaning is represented by a stylized checkbox symbolizing something being completed. The color green symbolizes balance and progress.
Goodwerp started as an all-in-one tool and initially it featured a gazillion tools, including chat and deals. We quickly found out that our users want something much simpler and easier to use. We learned quickly and made Goodwerp what it is today.
Goodwerp stands for "The Good Web ERP" (Enterprise Resource Planner), even though at this point we are a much simpler product than that, our infamous name is a reminder to always KISS (Keep it simple stupid).
The bottom line is that we love making online products. It's probably because we don't know how to do anything else. Though, as builders, we love the amazing childish feeling of building something and having people we have never met in real life use our creations.
Although, none of us knows what the future will bring, we would love for a few good things to happen to us.
